Let me tell you about my God

“Let me tell you about my God…” I found myself having a conversation with somebody who, for whatever reason, thought that I was questioning the goodness of God. I wasn’t – I may have many questions for God when I get to heaven, but whether He is good or not isn’t one of them. I could tell stories of God’s goodness all day.

We can quote scriptures, we can point to God’s goodness in the Bible, we can attempt to reason and study and assess the goodness of God through academic means – but what often has the most impact? Your story.

Let me tell you about my God… let me tell you about the God I know! Let me tell you about the God that was there when I invited Him into my life aged two. Let me tell you about the God who was with me when I was baptised at six. Please, let me tell you about the God who remained steadfast when I was ‘being a teenager’. I can tell you about my God who provided for me when I was without a home, about my God who was with me in my despair, about He who redeems, rescues, protects and saves.

Let me tell you about the God who raised me up, about He who placed me in a family and propelled me into my future, about the One who blesses me abundantly and the One who continues daily to provide the grace I need!

Moses told his story

There are a number of times when characters of the Bible told their stories to remind others of how good God had been to them – personally I like Moses’ account to his father-in-law, Jethro in Exodus 18:8-11. “Blessed be the Lord,” Jethro exclaimed, “who rescued you from the power of Egypt and the power of Pharoah… Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods!”

Jethro knew that God was good because of Moses’ story. People will know of His goodness because of your story.
