Choose Life!

Considering I've lived on this planet for some thirty plus years, you would think I would have grasped the basic principles of life, you know the basic laws of what keeps the world going round, and how to live, survive and thrive in the world. The fact that, like many of you, I still have so much to learn will not come as a surprise to you!

However, one thing I'm learning at the moment, is that life is made up of small building blocks. If you look at everything around you, you'll see that everything is made up of tiny building blocks called atoms, pounds are made of pennies, hours are made of seconds - you get my drift. Everything can be broken down into the tiny building blocks of life.

So often we focus on the big things, when really there is great wisdom in focusing on the small things.

You often hear it said, "look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves." In the Bible it tells us "he who is faithful in the very little, will also be faithful in much." And that's because the small things make up the big things, right?

And this week I was reading Deuteronomy 30 - one of my favourites - and it jumped out at me that here we have a small bit of wisdom, that if applied to every small thing in your life, will create great change in the big things.

Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach... See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction... This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live. Deuteronomy 30:11, 15, 19
Choose life! God is giving us one job, and it's not too difficult, and that is to choose life!

Every day we have many decisions set before us - do I say those unkind words? Do I eat that burger? Do I send that email? Do I criticise that person? Do I buy those shoes even though I can't really afford them?

Our days are made up of an infinite amount of decisions and if we simply pause and ask the question: Is what I'm about to do choosing life? Does it give life? Or does it suck the life out of me, another person, my bank account etc. I know that the accumulation of these simple decisions could be life-changing! It seems to me that it might be one of those God-given principles/laws that are so simple, and yet the effects are so far-reaching.

Imagine if you consistently, habitually chose life, if it was so much a part of your thought process that it was almost instinctive to choose life? Imagine if we could train our brains to always choose life, in every small, seemingly insignificant choice? It's one question! Surely we can ask ourselves one question?

I'm challenging myself to choose life in my small, daily decisions. Who knows what might happen!

This month I'm taking part in #Blogtober18 - (hopefully) blogging every day in October! I'm not going to follow any particular prompts, but will be attempting to provide a steady stream of content to give the site a boost in these early days! #PrayForMe!
